He explained that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however stressed that safety is a issue in every modern cars.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a classified level in any vehicle, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in all automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, the minister replied: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

The revelation follows claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the UK to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.
